Current Affairs are popular within Matlock Area U3A!

Membership of the first group became over-subscribed, so a second group was created to cater for the high level of demand and now a third is being developed.

All take topics from the media to generate lively discussion, but do so in slightly different ways.

Current Affairs Group One

The aim of this group is discuss current affairs as described in newspapers, radio, television, advertising, design, the internet, the global village or any other publicly available source.  The first half of the meeting will be on a pre-agreed subject, and the second half on whatever major or minor news stories appeal to members of the group.  Each month the co-ordinator will prepare a run-down of the front page headlines from all the National Papers for the day to act as an aide-memoire.

Current Affairs Group "1" meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in members' homes. Anyone needing information about the location of a particular meeting should contact one of the co-ordinators.

There is a charge of 30p per person at each meeting for tea/coffee and biscuits.

The groups' coordinator is Ros Bourne, who can be contacted by email by clicking on her name or by telephone on 01629 824428.

Current Affairs Group Two

Current Affairs Group "2" was started because of the interest expressed by numerous people who were unable to join the orginal group, as numbers grew.

The group is being run along the lines of ‘What the Papers Say’ with each member talking about a current affairs item of particular interest to them. This can be taken from any media outlet and is not restricted to newspapers. We also want to review items from non-UK sources.

The group meets on the 4th Thursday of the month between 2.00pm and 4.00pm.

There is a charge of 30p per person at each meeting for tea/coffee and biscuits.
