No partners are necessary to enjoy International Folk dancing as most dances are in lines or circles. This enthusiastic group has recently been learning a wide variety of folk dances from places such as Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia and Greece under the able tuition of the group's co-ordinator, Janet King. Unlike Line Dancing, these dances are usually performed in a circle, but in a way that is similar to Line Dancing in that the movements of the feet are very precise. Most members of the group havenever done these particular dances before, but come from an eclectic background of dance experience. They are therefore encouraged to teach the group any of the styles of dance with which they are familiar, for example English and Irish Folk Dances. We also hope to have some specialist dance teachers come in the next few months to give us further tuition as we develop our expertise. The group’s co-ordinator is Janet King, who can be contacted by email by clicking on her name, or by telephone on 01629 57065. The International Folk Dancing Group meets on most Friday mornings at the Darley Dale Community Centre from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. The group does not meet every week, however, and prospective new members should contact the co-ordinator to check exactly when the group will be meeting. There is a charge of £1.50 per session to cover the hire of the hall, plus 30p for refreshments. |

Note that from 19th June we are relocating to the replacement Darley Dale Community Centre which is located near the Megdale recycling centre. |
